Sorby Breck News & Events Click on the links below to view details of public ringing
demonstrations, other events and 'news' reports of how recent events
have fared! Ringers from within our Group tend to focus on studying specific species, monitoring sites, or both. At present Swallow, Ring Ouzel, Hobby, Dipper, Tree Sparrow, Bullfinch and raptors are of particular interest, being ringed regularly at sites in the Derbyshire Peak District and at lowland habitats in the area. There are two Constant Effort Sites (CES), one at Williamthorpe Ponds and a second at Tinsley, providing data towards National BTO schemes, allowing annual breeding success to be examined. We are an active group and on any weekend we will be ringing several
sites in the Sheffield and Chesterfield areas. We hold regular ringing
demonstrations where members of the public can learn about the science
of ringing and see familiar and sometimes rare birds at close quarters.
Why not come along to one of the events advertised. The Group owes a
debt of gratitude to Yorkshire Water for their conservational foresight.
Their support has enabled public ringing sessions to take place, raising
public awareness of the fieldwork undertaken alongside their sites.
