Maps of Recoveries

This new section of the website aims to provide details of some of the groups more interesting recoveries using 'Google Maps'. As an introduction, the first map below shows some of the more notable Pied Flycatcher recoveries from 2006 onwards, which are all relatively local. To follow shortly will be recoveries of Blackbird, Waxwing and Blackcap as well as foreign ringed birds controlled by the group, showing some longer distances travelled. We are also going to include a 'Latest Recoveries' map, showing interesting recoveries as we learn about them.

Pied Flycatcher

The group rings good numbers of Pied Flycatchers each year, although this year has not been as productive as 2009 (see article). Most of the recoveries are between the local sites, with distances of 2 to 5 miles being the norm. Interestingly though, of the 15 birds recovered or controlled since 2005, only 2 were recaptured at their original ringing site. The map below shows some of the more notable recoveries from 2006 onwards.
